BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Bridgeport school officials are investigating the death of a 6-year-old first-grade student.

The Connecticut Post reports (http://bit.ly/1vjdljX) the unidentified girl died last week, apparently while on her way to Tisdale School. Her funeral was Monday.

Interim Schools Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz said the student, who used a wheelchair and had several disabilities, was taken to school on a special-needs bus on Dec. 15. A teacher met the bus at the school and brought the child to the front door.

Rabinowitz said the teacher saw the child was unresponsive and rushed her to the nurse. CPR was performed at the school and in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, but the child could not be revived.

Rabinowitz said police were called and took statements. A police spokesman would not comment.
