HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Jabari Peters scored 12 points as Sam Houston State rolled over Prairie View A&M 61-44 on Saturday night.

DeMarcus Gatlin had nine points and seven rebounds for the Bearkats (7-4).

Sam Houston started strong, rolled to a 34-17 halftime advantage, led 50-28 midway through the second half and coasted to the win. The Panthers never threatened, in contrast to Sam Houston's hard-fought 108-103 double overtime victory against Prairie View last year.

The long-range shots would not fall for either team as the Bearkats made just 7 of 24 (29.2 percent). Prairie View was only 2 of 13 (15.4 percent) from beyond the arc. SHSU made 20 of 47 from the floor (42.6 percent) while limiting the Panthers to 18-of-53 shooting (34 percent).

The Bearkats also won the rebound battle 42 to 26.

Jayrn Johnson and Karim York had 10 points apiece for Prairie View (1-10).
