TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A child has died at a Pima County hospital due to complications from the flu.
State health officials say it's the first reported pediatric flu-related death in Arizona this season and the first in Pima County since 2009.
County Health Department officials say the child had other underlying health conditions that may have led to a higher risk for complications from the flu.
They say the county is withholding details about the patient, including age and gender.
Health officials recommend everyone aged 6 months and older be immunized.
At high risk for serious flu complications include those with underlying chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease or neurological conditions; pregnant women; those younger than 5 years or older than 65; or anyone with a weakened immune system.
