PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — It's a country that is used to terrorist attacks, but today's assault on a school in northwestern Pakistan has horrified Pakistanis. The attack left 141 people dead -- nearly all of them students. Even Taliban militants in neighboring Afghanistan denounced the attack by their comrades across the border, calling it "un-Islamic." Pakistan's prime minister is vowing not to ease off of his country's military offensive that has targeted militants in Pakistan's tribal region. In fact, he says that campaign will be strengthened.
PENNSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A manhunt that had people on edge in suburban Philadelphia for a day and a half is over. A prosecutor says police have found the body of Bradley Stone near his home. The former Marine sergeant was wanted in the killing early yesterday of his ex-wife and five of her relatives. A neighbor had seen him fleeing the ex-wife's apartment with their two young daughters -- who were later found safe with his neighbors. They'd been fighting over the children's custody since she filed for divorce five years ago.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The stage may be set for an early veto confrontation between President Barack Obama and the Republican-controlled Congress next year. The Senate's top Republican, Mitch McConnell, says approving the Keystone X-L pipeline will top the Senate agenda in January. Congressional Republicans have been pushing for approval of the pipeline for years. Obama has resisted because of environmental concerns.
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are ending slightly lower after an early rally fizzled. At the end of an up-and-down day Tuesday the Dow lost 111 points. It had been up as much as 246 points at midday before turning lower in the afternoon. The S&P fell 16 points. The Nasdaq lost 57. Energy companies rose as investors were relieved to see the price of oil stabilize after a prolonged rout.
NEW YORK (AP) — For a second day in a row, a family member has come to the defense of Bill Cosby. His daughter Evin says in a statement obtained by "Access Hollywood" that Cosby "is the FATHER you thought you knew." And on Facebook, she says people should come forward and support Cosby if they themselves have been "accused of a major crime that they NEVER committed."
