LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada Sen. Dean Heller has announced he'll be serving on the powerful Senate Finance Committee during the upcoming congressional session.
The Republican senator is adding the assignment to seats on committees for Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Veterans' Affairs, and the Special Committee on Aging.
He'll drop off the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for the new session that begins in January.
Heller issued a statement saying he thinks the new finance committee seat will allow him to strengthen and protect Medicare and Social Security.
He says his spot on the transportation committee will help him highlight Nevada priorities such as the proposed Interstate 11 project.
