SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors are appealing a federal judge's decision to reduce the sentence for a Brigham City doctor convicted of illegally prescribing painkillers. U.S. District Judge Dee Benson originally sentenced MacKay to 20 years in 2011. He was released from prison Tuesday.

WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) — Four people have died in separate weekend accidents in northern Utah. Police say 44-year-old Todd Johnson and his 11-year-old son, Levi, died after being struck by a car in West Jordan on Saturday night. On Saturday morning, an airman from Utah's Hill Air Force Base and a woman were killed in a single-vehicle rollover near Bountiful.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials have slashed fines for three online electronic cigarette marketers from $1.1 million to $31,150. They declined to comment on why the Utah Division of Consumer Protection quietly settled civil cases with companies that had been cited after allegedly deceiving and ripping off customers. Documents show two of the companies simply couldn't afford to pay more.
