NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — UCLA linebacker Eric Kendricks has won the Lott IMPACT Trophy as the college defensive player having the biggest influence on his team.
The other finalists were Landon Collins of Alabama, David Helton of Duke and Hau'oli Kikaha of Washington.
Kendricks, the second straight Bruins player to win the 11th annual award, set a school career record with 471 tackles, including 139 this season. He earlier won the Butkus Award. Teammate Anthony Barr won the Lott award last year.
An honorary Lott IMPACT Trophy was presented to former Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, who was injured in the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, at Sunday night's banquet at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
The award is named for Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott and goes to a player with strong academic work, community involvement and team leadership.
UCLA will receive $25,000 for its general scholarship fund.
