With lawmakers eager to wrap up work for the year, the measure was on track for final passage by early next week before Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, by Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, launched a bid to force the Senate to vote on President Barack Obama's new immigration policy. The Senate will be in session Saturday and there could be a test vote early Sunday.
MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) — A senior police officer in Pakistan says dozens of grenades, rocket launchers and four suicide bomb vests have been recovered from a hideout after four Taliban fighters were killed in a shootout in eastern Punjab province. Officials say the militants were likely plotting to attack a planned Shiite rally.
BANGALORE, India (AP) — A man believed to be behind a popular pro-Islamic State Twitter account is in custody in southern India. Police say that Mehdi Masroor Biswas, a 24-year-old engineer, is being questioned by authorities. On Friday, Britain's Channel 4 had reported that they had uncovered the identity of the account holder. The account has been deleted but Channel 4 described Biswas as one of the militant group's most influential Twitter supporters with 17,000 followers and over 2 million views each month.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Eight people have been killed in central Indonesia after torrential rains set off a mudslide down the hills and into a village. Officials say more than 100 people are missing and about 105 houses were swept away. Hundreds of people, including police, soldiers and residents, were digging through the debris with their bare hands, shovels and hoes.
LIMA, Peru (AP) — Negotiators at U.N. talks in Lima, Peru, on a new global warming pact are still bickering about details of proposals scheduled to come up at a key summit in Paris next year. The talks scheduled to end Friday spilled into the weekend as agreement remains elusive on getting the more than 190 countries to agree on what information should go into government Pledges for the Paris talks.
