COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — A Mexican national, who briefly disturbed the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo this week, will remain in detention until his deportation after a lower court order was trumped by an appeal.
The Oslo City Court on Friday had turned down the prosecution's demand that Adan Cortes Salas should be detained because of fears he might flee after his political asylum application was rejected.
However, the ruling was immediately appealed by the prosecution, meaning Cortes Salas would remain in custody until a higher court rules. No date for an appeals hearing was immediately set.
On Thursday, a day after the gatecrashing, he was fined 15,000 kroner ($2,100) for disturbing the peace.
Pakistani Malala Yousafzai and India's Kailash Satyarthi were awarded the prize for helping protect children and advance their education.
