BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Graduate students who teach and do research at Montana State University have ratified a labor contract that would give some of them immediate pay raises if the school's regents also approve the pact.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported Wednesday (http://tinyurl.com/pg4m2je) the Board of Regents will vote on the contract next month. It would cover about 700 graduate students.
Montana State University System chief labor negotiator Kevin McRae says the contract sets a minimum salary of $650 a month.
The contract is the first for Montana State graduate students. It would be retroactive to Oct. 1 and expire in June 2015.
The Graduate Employees Organization negotiated the contract for the students. Doctoral student and union president Jim Junker calls it a huge recognition of the students' work.
