LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a 29-year-old man surrendered for arrest at the Clark County jail, a day after he was identified as the suspect in a fatal weekend shooting in northwest Las Vegas. Records showed that Kolby R. Edwards was arrested Sunday and was being held today without bail pending an initial court appearance. Police had identified Edwards as the suspect in the early Saturday slaying of 25-year-old Cordan Jamal Swift at an apartment.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — A Sparks woman who reportedly was suffering from mental illness has been arrested on suspicion of torturing and killing two of her cats. Sparks Police Lt. Chad Hawkins says officers were called to the home of Elizabeth Bergland last week after her mother reported her daughter had a mental breakdown and had become delusional. Hawkins told KOLO-TV yesterday that detectives determined she had strangled one cat with an electrical cord and then set it on fire. He says she killed the other by striking it with a golf club.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Southern Nevada is adding beds for dozens more psychiatric patients this month, less than a year after a shortage of space reached crisis levels at Las Vegas emergency rooms. Members of the governor's Behavioral Health and Wellness Council were told today that Valley Hospital is opening up 20 beds tomorrow for psychiatric patients. Hospital officials said they plan to add staff in coming weeks to increase capacity to 48 beds.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — "Grease" star Olivia Newton-John is keeping her "Summer Nights" show at the Flamingo Las Vegas casino-hotel through September. Flamingo owner Caesars Entertainment announced today that the performer's residency had been extended. The 66-year-old singer and actress is adding 70 performance dates to her calendar starting March 3 through Sept. 12, 2015. The show features hits from her 1978 starring turn in "Grease," as well as songs from "Xanadu" and her solo pop career, including "Physical."
