The Hyatt Regency O'Hare is hosting a convention where attendees dress as animals to celebrate art, literature and performance. The area was decontaminated.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is prescribing time and vigilance to tackle problems as entrenched in American society as racism and bias. He also is urging patience, saying progress usually comes in small steps. In an interview with BET, Obama says he told young civil rights activists last week that America has made gains, and that "gives us hope" of making more progress.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A security official in the United Arab Emirates says the woman accused of stabbing to death an American teacher in a public restroom last week was carrying out a "lone terrorist act." The official, quoted by the UAE news agency, says the suspect may have had links with terrorist organizations or political groups and had randomly selected foreign targets.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee says releasing a report on the CIA's use of torture a decade ago will cause violence and deaths abroad. Mike Rogers tells CNN the U.S. intelligence community has assessed that it will be used by extremists to incite violence. Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Senate intelligence panel, says the report needs to come out.
NEW YORK (AP) — Britain's Prince William and his wife, Kate, are in New York City. It's the royal couple's first official visit to the U.S. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's motorcade arrived at the Carlyle Hotel tonight to a throng of admirers and media. The two have a full schedule of events in the city. William will also meet with President Barack Obama at the White House tomorrow.
