ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The Elko County Commission wants the former editor and publisher of the Elko Daily Free Press to fill a commission seat left vacant by the death of Grant Gerber. Commissioners made Rex Steninger their top choice to complete Gerber's term through 2016 on a list of three candidates they sent to Gov. Brian Sandoval, who will make the final decision. Gerber's son says the family backs Steninger.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A seven-month investigation into graffiti vandalism in Reno has resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old man who police say has admitted to tagging dozens of sites causing more than $11,000 in damage. Police say Rodrigo De La Cruz Campos admitted he was responsible for the graffiti at 74 different locations. Detectives say it costs the city about $122 an hour to clean up the damage.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won NASCAR's prestigious Myers Brothers Award given to a person who makes significant contributions to the sport. Earnhardt this year won the Nationwide Series championship as a car owner with Chase Elliott. But the award marked his participation in various racing series, the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Foundation and his 235 appearances for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
