LOS ANGELES (AP) — Drought-stricken California is being pounded with rain from a powerful Pacific storm. Residents in some wildfire-scarred communities are scrambling to evacuate as authorities warn of mudflows from unstable hillsides. A dozen homes are under an evacuation order in one Ventura County community northwest of Los Angeles. Evacuations are voluntary in some other places.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Police are investigating Michael Brown's stepfather for angry comments made to a crowd in Ferguson, Missouri, after a grand jury decided not to indict the police officer who fatally shot his stepson. St. Louis County police say they want to talk to Louis Head about his comments as part of a broader investigation into arson, vandalism and looting that followed the Nov. 24 grand jury announcement.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Government health advisers have concerns about lifting a nationwide ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, despite growing pressure against the policy from gay rights advocates, medical experts and blood banks. Many medical groups say the policy is no longer supported by science, given advances in HIV testing. But blood safety experts are urging the Food and Drug Administration to exercise caution in making any changes to the ban, which dates from the first years of the AIDS epidemic.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Rolling Stones sax player Bobby Keys has died. Keyboardist Michael Webb says Keys died today after a lengthy illness. Keys was 70. He had been on tour with the Stones earlier this year before his health kept him from performing. Keys also played with John Lennon and Eric Clapton and started as a player for Buddy Holly and The Crickets. The Rolling Stones say in a statement they're "devastated" by Keys' death.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The funeral for Ohio State athlete Kosta Karageorge (KOH'-stah KAHR'-ah-jorj) will be held tomorrow in Columbus. The 22-year-old football player and wrestler was found dead in a trash bin Sunday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A coroner says his body will be examined for signs of traumatic brain injury related to a history of concussions.
