COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The fired director of Ohio State's marching band is taking issue with a task force report that he says failed to acknowledge that he was the only person held responsible for the years of deficient supervision and oversight uncovered by its review.
In a statement Wednesday, Jonathan Waters said he's glad the four-month review reflected his efforts to modernize band culture and acknowledged the need for more staffing, training and university oversight.
But Waters said the review identified many band and music school staff members who shared his knowledge of band problems but weren't held responsible.
A message seeking comment was left with a spokeswoman for the task force.
Waters has sued for reinstatement. An internal investigation concluded he knew about, but failed to stop, a "sexualized culture" within the band.
