ATLANTA (AP) — An effort to bring a form of medical marijuana to Georgia continues to move forward, but hurdles remain as lawmakers begin drafting legislation to introduce next year.
A study committee has been meeting to hear from representatives in law enforcement and recently the medical community who raised concerns about the use of medical cannabis even under narrow circumstances.
Progress is being made in bringing clinical trials to Georgia, but advocates warn those won't be enough to help all those who see cannabis oil as their best hope to manage debilitating diseases.
Republican Rep. Allen Peake has been spearheading the effort. He feels confident fellow lawmakers will want to move forward with allowing the use of cannabidiol, a marijuana derivate low in the psychoactive compound that makes users feel high.
