SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love could become the first black female Republican in Congress with today's election. Love faces Democrat Doug Owens in Utah's 4th Congressional District for the seat being vacated by Democrat Jim Matheson. Matheson defeated Love two years ago, but decided not to run for re-election.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Republican Sean Reyes and Democrat Charles Stormont are squaring off in a special election for Utah attorney general today. Reyes was appointed to serve as the state's top law enforcement officer in December after former Republican Attorney General John Swallow resigned. Reyes and Stormont are running to fill the last two years of Swallow's term.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A 21-year-old man has been charged with negligent homicide in a three-vehicle crash that killed a Richmond man in Cache County. Kalin Menlove-McGinnis of Tremonton is accused of rear-ending a Jeep driven by 42-year-old Leigh Purser near Cove and causing it to be struck by an oncoming pickup truck.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 43-year-old man who took a hostage at knife-point at the FBI's downtown Salt Lake City office two years ago has been sentenced to three years of probation. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Robert Hibbard was spared prison time under a plea agreement. In August, he pleaded guilty but mentally ill to a reduced charge of second-degree felony kidnapping. The hostage was unharmed.
