BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Vermont land conservation groups say it's unlikely any way will be found to buy 25 acres of undeveloped land on Lake Champlain in Burlington before a deal for the property with a developer becomes final.
Burlington College is hoping to sell the land that is now part of its North Avenue property as a way to help it dig out of a deep financial hole.
The college has made a deal to sell the land to a developer for $7 million, but they included a provision to sell the land to a conservation group if it can outbid the developer within 60 days.
Jon Binhammer of The Nature Conservancy tells Vermont Public Radio (http://bit.ly/1zrU5XK ) that for $7 million a group could purchase about 7,000 acres of high-quality forest land.
