KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) — There's going to be a seventh game in the World Series. The final game of the 2014 season will be tonight in Kansas city after the Royals' 10-0 thrashing of the Giants last night, tying the series at three wins apiece. Tim Hudson is getting the ball for the Giants tonight against Jeremy Guthrie.
PORTLAND (AP) — One of the NBA's elite teams opens its new season tonight. Oklahoma City is on the road for a game with the Blazers in Portland and the Thunder will be without league MVP Kevin Durant. He underwent foot surgery Oct. 16 and his status will be evaluated six weeks from that day.
UNDATED (AP) — The first rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee were announced last night. Mississippi State and Florida State are ranked 1-2 in with Auburn third and Mississippi fourth. The top four schools in the final rankings, to be released Dec. 7, will take part in the first national semifinals.
DETROIT (AP) — Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe suffered a stroke on Sunday and has lost some function on the right side of his body. His daughter Cathy says the 86-year-old Detroit Red Wings legend has lost much of the use of his right arm and right leg. Howe spent 25 seasons with the Red Wings from 1946-71 and retired as the NHL's all-time leader with 801 goals, 1,049 assists and 1,850 points.
LONDON (AP) — A study commissioned by the NFL and a London marketing agency says a franchise in London could generate more than $250 million a year for Britain. Three games are being played in Wembley Stadium this season and there has been speculation that a team could be located in London.
