LAS VEGAS (AP) — Visitors looking for a crash pad in downtown Las Vegas will find one at the recently re-opened Oasis at Gold Spike hotel near Fremont Street. The Downtown Project led by Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh (SHAY) announced the hotel's new look yesterday, but didn't reveal renovation costs. The 38 rooms and six suites at the boutique hotel cost $49 to $79 during the week and more than $100 and $200 on weekends, depending on availability. Oasis re-opened Sept. 15.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada taxi regulators have approved a rate hike that would make cab rides in Las Vegas and surrounding areas the second most expensive among U.S. metro areas with tourism-based economies. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Nevada Taxi Authority must get funding approval to change the meters on about 3,000 cabs.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge in Las Vegas set $1 million bail for an alleged pimp accused of torturing and beating a woman so severely she had a finger amputated and needed skin grafts. Robert Sharpe III is in jail pending trial on kidnapping, assault and sex trafficking charges. The Review-Journal reports that Sharpe's appointed lawyer called the bail amount excessive.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A California man who federal prosecutors say was the ring-leader of a methamphetamine trafficking operation in northern Nevada has been sentenced to more than 19 years in prison. Prosecutors say 42-year-old Rosendo Salgado of Mountclair ran the operation from his Southern California home and used coded language to track sales.
