MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — One of college football's top running backs won't serve jail time in a Michigan theft case.
Central Michigan's Thomas Rawls was sentenced Tuesday in Isabella County Trial Court to a year's probation and 104 hours of community service.
The 21-year-old Flint man pleaded guilty last month to a misdemeanor charge of attempted larceny. He was accused in an April 8 theft of a woman's purse at Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant. He was also accused of using her credit cards.
The team suspended Rawls after the charges and reinstated him following the plea.
The Michigan transfer is the fifth-leading rusher in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Rawls has run for 1,007 yards and 10 touchdowns in only six games.
