SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Five southern Utah men are pleading not guilty to federal charges in connection with an ATV protest ride that organizers said was designed to draw attention to the U.S. government's overreaching control of public lands. They are facing misdemeanor charges in the May ride through southeastern Utah's Recapture Canyon that illustrated growing tensions between Western residents and the Bureau of Land Management.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah National Guard says a senior official wrongly gave permission to several Guard members to take part in a risque video shot featuring bikini-clad women firing high-powered weapons. Lt. Col. Steven Fairbourn said yesterday their initial investigation has found part of the video was shot at Camp Williams with some Guard equipment as backdrops.
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) — The Navajo Nation Supreme Court has set a hearing Monday on a petition to keep a disqualified presidential candidate off the ballot. Attorneys for two men challenging Chris Deschene's (des-CHEE'-nee) candidacy filed the petition earlier this week. They say the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors was wrong to disregard an order from a tribal hearing officer that disqualified Deschene.
SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a 42-year-old woman was shot in the leg while walking on a South Salt Lake sidewalk. South Salt Lake Police Executive Officer Gary Keller says the shooting happened a little after 6:30 a.m. yesterday, while the woman was passing in front of a Mormon church building near 300 East and 3250 South. She is in critical condition.
