DANIELSVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A school board in northeastern Georgia has voted to alter a monument outside a high school football field that contains two Biblical references.
Madison County Schools Superintendent Allen McCannon told the Athens Banner-Herald Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1rv41Xc ) that the monument at the Madison County High School football field will be changed to comply with state and federal laws.
The newspaper reports the school board voted unanimously to modify the monument after getting a letter from the American Humanist Association saying the structure violated the religious establishment clause in Constitution.
McCannon says it's unclear how long it may take for the monument to be modified. McCannon says he may seek input from students on how the monument should be changed.
