LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two former University of Nevada, Las Vegas, employees have pleaded guilty to stealing at least $292,000 from the school. Lina Khachekian pleaded guilty Thursday to two felony counts of theft, while Marissa Neuhaus pleaded guilty to one felony count of fraudulent misappropriation. Prosecutors say they used UNLV purchase accounts to buy electronics for their own use or resale.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A state panel has granted tax breaks to Amazon.com for its new distribution center in Reno. The Governor's Office of Economic Development board took the action Friday after Amazon said it plans a total of $28 million in capital equipment and building improvements at the new site. The company is closing its distribution center in Fernley and moving to a 100,000-square-foot warehouse in Reno.
PIOCHE, Nev. (AP) — The lone banks in two small rural Nevada towns are closing. Washington Federal has announced plans to close its branches in the Lincoln County seat of Pioche and the unincorporated Nye County town of Beatty. Pioche residents told KLAS-TV the Seattle-based bank sent a letter saying it would move all of their accounts to its branch in Ely, about 110 miles away.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Gay couples in Las Vegas cheered at the marriage license bureau when anticipation became reality, and the county clerk began granting same-sex partners the right to wed. To boost awareness, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority placed a full-page ad in USA Today on Friday featuring two groom cake-toppers with a view of Vegas in the background.
