This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
At the center, which now includes locations in Salt Lake City and Sandy, Bob says they follow the Piaget (pee-ahh-jhay) model of child development. This means the focus at Devlin's Child Development Centers is to allow children to learn through the art of play. For example, to teach them about colors, they encourage kids to ask for specific colors of Legos or blocks when building something. They also develop hand/eye coordination through playing with toys.
This model resonates with their clients, which is why they're now serving the second and third generation from their original customer base. Between both locations they can serve around 226 kids, from infants through school age, and they even offer after-school care for working parents with older children. Bob says his work wouldn't be possible without his dedicated team of talented employees, and he is proud of the group he has on board. His clients think so too since the repertoire of Devlin's Child Development Centers is growing primarily through word of mouth and referrals.
At the center, the staff provides breakfast, lunch and snacks along with a napping area. But there's a lot of freedom, and the children make decisions for themselves, especially as to when they're tired and when they're not.
Devlin's Child Development Centers has been around a long time. Bob's parents founded the company in 1963. His mother was a war bride and came over to the United States from France to marry his father following World War II. He speaks with great love and respect for his mother and the education she provided him as he grew up. Madeline Devlin is still doing well at age 91 and is proud of the growth her son Bob has brought to the business since he took over in 1973.
