MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) — Mid-Continent University in western Kentucky has filed for bankruptcy protection.
Tom Butler, who is chairman of the school's board of trustees, said the panel took the action on Monday to hold off creditors.
Officials with the financially struggling Christian school in Graves County decided to close the facility on June 30. At the time, acting President Robert "Tom" Walden said there wasn't enough money to pay staff.
The school announced in February that financial woes might force it to close. The financial situation stems from the U.S. Department of Education's rejection of financial aid paperwork.
