DETROIT (AP) — Some Detroit-area students plan to show off their efforts to build a dune buggy and convert it to run on electric power.
An event is Tuesday evening at NextEnergy in Detroit, where the middle school and high school students are seeking additional support for their efforts. They hope to participate in next year's High School Solar Car Challenge in Texas. The team is called Run DC.
The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center and NextEnergy co-sponsored the students' work. The team must raise $12,000 to purchase materials, so sponsorships are being sought from Detroit-area businesses.
The students were chosen to participate on the engineering team by an organization called Heroes' Alliance.
