ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Mischief Clem won the $58,000 Dick Salter feature for 2-year-olds by 1 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita on Friday.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Mischief Clem ran six furlongs in 1:09.75 and paid $3, $2.80 and $2.40 as the 1-2 favorite.
Comanche Ruler returned $15.40 and $6 at 29-1 odds, while Peradventure was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $6.20 to show.
Tyler Baze was unseated by his mount Naomi's Gift.
The victory, worth $34,800, increased Mischief Clem's career earnings to $79,800, with two wins in two starts.
The race was named for the late Arcadia High School football coach, and among his former players on hand was NFL Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews.
