DALLAS (AP) — Federal health officials say a man with the Ebola virus is in critical condition at a hospital in Texas. He's the first case of Ebola diagnosed in the U.S. Authorities are now tracking down anyone he may have had close contact with, but they say there was no risk to anyone who was on his airline flight two weeks ago because he had no symptoms at that point. Federal health officials say the man had flown from Liberia to Dallas Sept. 19, and started feeling ill a few days later.
BELL GARDENS, Calif. (AP) — The wife of the mayor of the Los Angeles suburb of Bell Gardens is in custody after her husband was shot dead during an argument. Authorities say Mayor Daniel Crespo was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon at a hospital. Crespo's wife told authorities that she and her 45-year-old husband had gotten into an argument and their 19-year-old son tried to intervene. Levette Crespo told authorities that her husband then struggled with their son and she shot her husband several times in the torso.
HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong's embattled leader is telling voters that it's better to agree to Beijing's plans for nominating candidates than to stick with the current system of having an Election Commission choose his replacement. Leung (lee-ung) Chun-ying made the comments Wednesday at a flag-raising to mark China's National Day. Behind police barricades, hundreds of protesters yelled at him to step down. For days now, thousands of students have been protesting Beijing's refusal to agree to certain democratic reforms.
LUCKNOW, India (AP) — At least 12 people are dead after two express trains collided in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state. Dozens more are injured. A railway official says three coaches of a train derailed and toppled over after another train crashed into it at a train station late Tuesday.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals are in the American League Division Series after winning the wildest of Wild Card games. Salvador Perez hit a walkoff single and the Royals scored twice in the bottom of the 12th to pull out a 9-8 win over the Oakland Athletics in Kansas City. The Royals rallied from deficits of 7-3 and 8-7 before earning the right to face the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS.
