BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's wildfire season is closing with a slow fizzle after short bursts of rain and cooler temperatures dampened the state's tinderbox of fuel. Fire officials say this year's season consumed nearly 271 square miles in Idaho. U.S. Bureau of Land Management fire mitigation expert Jennifer Myslivy says fewer fires meant there were more resources to suppress the flames faster.
UNDATED (AP) __ An Idaho woman who disappeared last week has been found in the Mississippi town where her father was once a minister in the 1960s. She told police she didn't know how she got there. Cynthia Adams, a 52-year-old Boise woman, was reported missing on Tuesday. On Saturday, she appeared at the door of a home in Clara, Mississippi.
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Youngsters in a northern Idaho town will have a place to ride their kick-scooters. The Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department is buying a $43,000 pump track, expected to be in place by mid-November. The Lewiston Tribune reports the 215-foot track is portable and intended to replace the venue scooter riders lost when the city council banned them from the skate park last year.
HAMILTON, Mont. (AP) — Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say a wildfire that displaced two mountain lion cubs in August was caused by a target shooter who detonated an exploding target. The Ravalli Republic reports the 50-acre fire started east of Florence in the Sapphire Mountains. The Forest Service's Northern Region prohibited the use of exploding targets on national forest lands in May.
