FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Authorities in Frederick County say they collected nearly 1,200 pounds of expired or unwanted medications Saturday during a drug disposal event.
The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1rvM1k3 ) reports 1,191 pounds of medications were collected during the event Saturday at Harry Grove Stadium. Police say 183 vehicles came to the stadium to drop off medication.
The event was organized by the Whitesell Pharmacy and the Frederick Police Department as part of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration initiative aimed at encouraging people to discard medication safely.
Police say in the future people will be able to dispose of medication at drop boxes that will be installed at locations including police departments and pharmacies.
