LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Youngsters in a northern Idaho town will have a new place to ride their kick-scooters this fall.
The Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department is buying a $43,000 pump track, expected to be in place by mid-November. The Lewiston Tribune (http://bit.ly/Y46gcH ) reports the serpentine 215-foot track is portable and intended to replace the venue scooter riders lost when the city council banned them from the local skate park last year.
The city council instituted the ban after hearing from parks officials who said the little kids who typically ride scooters presented a safety hazard to the mostly older, more experienced skateboard riders at the park.
City officials say a new, scooter-friendly facility could be built sometime in the next several years, but the pump track will serve in the meantime.
