CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — Ammon Olsen threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns and Southern Utah came out on top 31-28 after a back-and-forth battle with Weber State on Saturday night.
With the score tied in the third, Olsen threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Chris Robinson for the Thunderbirds (1-4, 1-0 Big Sky). Billy Green quickly responded for Weber State with a 64-yard pass to Drew Batchelor with 2:54 left in the third quarter.
On their next possession, the Thunderbirds drove 92 yards in 11 plays and Olsen threw an 8-yard TD pass to Mike Sharp to go up 31-28, marking the fourth lead change of the game.
Weber State was at Southern Utah's 25 for its final possession with a minute to go. Josh Smith intercepted Green's pass on third and 10, ending any hopes for a comeback.
Green threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats (0-5, 0-1).
