POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — The Pocatello Zoo in southeast Idaho has a new grizzly bear. The 2-year-old female weighing about 200 pounds arrived Thursday morning after being captured Monday in Wyoming where she had become habituated to humans. Zoo Superintendent Peter Pruett says zoo officials plan to slowly introduce the new bear to Stripes, a 29-year-old female grizzly at the zoo.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Federal officials say the number of acres in eastern Idaho infested with a parasite that damages potato crops is up to 2,400. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that the 22 infested fields are within a 5-mile radius and are in northern Bingham County and southern Bonneville County. The discovery of the pale cyst nematode in seven fields in 2006 was the first detection in the United States.
NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in Idaho have found the driver thought to have abandoned a trailer containing 37,000 pounds of rotten chicken at a western Montana truck stop. The Nampa Police Department says the Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force in Meridian found 42-year-old Christopher Hall yesterday. Police say the trailer might have been sitting at the truck stop for a month before it was discovered this week.
KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — An alternative energy company has applied for a 50-year state lease to build a $2 million, 50-acre solar project in central Idaho. Ketchum-based Sagebrush Solar wants to install about 3,600 solar panels on 6 acres in Ohio Gulch north of Hailey. The company says the project would produce enough electricity to power about 160 homes.
