PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have fired assistant general manager and amateur scouting director Marti Wolever.

Wolever had been the club's scouting director since October 2001. The Phillies drafter Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels with Wolever in charge of the draft.

"The Phillies express appreciation for Marti's many years of service to the organization," Phillies General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement Friday night.

The Phillies (72-87) have clinched last place in the NL East.
