MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man convicted of killing his estranged wife is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 5. The Lewiston Tribune reports that Charles Capone is facing a sentence of up to life in prison for killing 40-year-old Rachael Anderson from Clarkston, Washington, in April 2010. The body of the mother of four hasn't been found.
MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho motorcycle officer who made a high-speed pass on the right of a civilian motorcycle rider has been disciplined. The Meridian Police Department says the officer violated policy by operating the police motorcycle in an unsafe manner. The civilian motorcycle rider had a video running and recorded the pass.
SEATTLE (AP) — Faced with increasing criticism of a proposal that would restrict media filming in wilderness areas, the head of the U.S. Forest Service said late yesterday that the rule is not intended to apply to news-gathering activities. Chief Tom Tidwell says the rule would apply to commercial filming, such as a movie production, but reporters and news organizations would not need to get a permit.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A federal court judge for the District of Idaho has announced his intention to leave active service in 2015. U.S. District Court Judge Edward Lodge has notified President Barack Obama that he plans to assume senior status on July 3. Senior status means the 80-year-old Lodge will continue to serve the court but his caseload will be cut back over time. Lodge's replacement must be nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
