FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Democrats have asked the state's attorney general to stop the University System from releasing to an advertising agency the contact information of college students.
But Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the system will be responding to the request from Odney Advertising because the directory is considered a public record.
Democratic Party chairman Bob Valeu (vah-LOU') had asked Stenehjem to issue a cease and desist order against the Bismarck-based ad agency. Valeu says that data should be off limits.
Stenehjem says the system regularly receives requests for this type of information and it's routinely provided. He says students are given the opportunity to opt out of the practice of releasing directory records.
KFGO-AM reports the company handles much of the marketing for the Republican administration of Gov. Jack Dalrymple.
