CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) — A New York grand jury has decided against charging NASCAR star Tony Stewart in the August death of another driver who walked toward Stewart's car during a sprint car race. Ontario County district Attorney Michael Tantillo says Ward was under the influence of marijuana that night "enough to impair judgment."
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Attorneys for the woman who says Jameis (JAY'-mihs) Winston sexually assaulted her and an adviser for the Florida State quarterback's family confirm there were discussions about a potential settlement deal last year. Attorney David Cornwell said in a letter to Florida State that the woman's former lawyer Patricia Carroll demanded $7 million to settle her claim.
GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — New York Rangers center Derek Stepan has broken his lower left leg during a conditioning drill today. The Rangers say it's unclear how long Stepan will be sidelined. The 24-year-old was suffering from a leg injury earlier this week but was cleared to play after X-rays came back negative.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota third baseman Trevor Plouffe's (PLUHFS) season has ended a few days early, because of a broken left forearm. He suffered the injury while trying to make a tag during today's game against Arizona.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Rookie Teddy Bridgewater will start at quarterback for Minnesota Sunday when the Vikings take on Atlanta. He inherited the starting job after Matt Cassel was ruled out for the rest of the season with broken bones in his foot.
