GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A federal judge has refused to revoke a detention order for a longtime Gulfport teacher accused of taking male students on out-of-state trips for sex.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1qtnGq5) Chief U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. upheld a pretrial judge's detention order last week for 68-year-old Richard Pryor.
Pryor faces charges he sexually assaulted boys he took on trips while he was a math teacher at Bayou View Junior High in Gulfport from 1999 through 2005.
On Monday, Guirola agreed to move the case to a court calendar that starts Dec. 1.
Pryor faces two counts each of interstate travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with minors and transportation of minors for sexual activity.
Pryor wanted to be released to the custody of his sister.
