RENO, Nev. (AP) — Dense smoke continues to blanket Reno and much of the Sierra's eastern front from a wildfire nearly 100 miles away in California. The National Weather Service says the smoke is unhealthy for the elderly and people with respiratory conditions.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A murder charge has been dropped against a 16-year-old North Las Vegas high school junior after a convenience store video gave him an alibi. Police had planned to charge the teen with the Sept. 5 shooting death of 20-year-old Andrea Lafon. Police are still investigating.

LOVELOCK, Nev. (AP) — Investigators say the new president of a small gypsum mine east of Lovelock wasn't properly trained how to use an ATV when he rolled the vehicle and was killed this spring. The Mine Safety and Health Administration is faulting management for not providing enough training for 57-year-old William Hill before he took the ATV out on the Gypsum Mountain Mine grounds.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has told Nevada boxing regulators that scenes of him rolling joints, betting and fighting in a cable TV reality show were all made up. Mayweather was called before regulators to explain what went on in the Showtime "All Access" segments, promoting his rematch this month with Marcos Maidana.
