NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A murder charge has been dropped and a 16-year-old North Las Vegas high school junior is free after prosecutors received a video showing he was in a convenience store and not at the scene of a fatal shooting that police say stemmed from a marijuana deal gone bad.
North Las Vegas police Sgt. Chrissie Coon said Tuesday that investigators were evaluating whether the video provides the teen an alibi in the Sept. 5 shooting of 20-year-old Andrea Lafon in a car in a North Las Vegas neighborhood.
Lafon died the next day.
The teen was arrested Sept. 11, and prosecutors had planned to charge him as an adult.
Police said witnesses told them the teen shot Lafon after she refused to sell him $40 worth of marijuana for $35.
