TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — St. Lucie County will be home to Florida's seventh nursing home for veterans.
Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet unanimously voted Tuesday to award the nursing home to the county.
The vote came after the recommendation was made by Department of Veterans Affairs executive director Mike Prendergast.
Marion County was chosen as an alternative site in case the project doesn't go forward in St. Lucie County.
State Rep. Matt Hudson questioned the selection process, saying a legislative study showed that southwest Florida had the greatest need for the nursing home for veterans.
