MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermonters are urged to dispose of unwanted medications on this year's drug take-back day.
The ninth annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27.
Attorney General Bill Sorrell says the Drug Enforcement Administration is holding the event in partnership with the Vermont State Police, sheriff's departments and police departments throughout Vermont. Residents can drop off their unwanted medications at various take-back locations, which can found online at www.dea.gov.
The event last October collected almost 3,500 pounds of drugs in Vermont.
Sorrell says prescription drugs that remain in home medicine cabinets can be abused, misused and trafficked. He also urged parents to talk with their children about the dangers of abusing prescription and over-the-counter medications.
The program runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
