RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — A new doctoral degree program at Eastern Kentucky University is aimed at helping fill health care needs, especially in rural Kentucky.
The school says the clinical psychology doctoral program will begin in the fall of 2015.
A main focus will be preparing psychology practitioners to work in underserved rural areas.
The school says the curriculum will provide opportunities for specialized training in substance abuse, mental health administration, school-based mental health, suicide risk assessment and prevention and working with groups such as veterans and people with developmental disabilities.
The doctoral program builds on EKU's long-standing master's degree program in clinical psychology.
The school says the doctoral program will accept 12 students in its inaugural cohort in the fall of 2015. Students may begin applying in December.
