ST. GEORGE- Pine View quarterback Kody Wilstead knew a road game versus rival Dixie would be a challenge.

However, challenges can provide great opportunities for players, and Wilstead did. The senior threw five touchdown passes, as the Panthers beat the Flyers, 42-36, at Walt Brooks Field in St. George.

Dixie opened the game’s scoring early in the first quarter, with Bret Barben taking a 65-yard pass from Ammon Takau for a touchdown. Pine View countered immediately, as Jaden Peterson scored on a two-yard run to tie the game at 7-7. The Panthers took a 14-7 lead to end the first quarter, as Blake Ence scored on an 11-yard pass from Wilstead.

The Flyers tied the game early in the second quarter though, as Konner Aitken scored on a one-yard run that made the score 14-14. However, Ence caught a 20-yard pass from Wilstead to give the Panthers a 21-14 halftime lead.

Pine View quarterback Kody Wilstead threw five touchdown passes, as the Panthers downed rival Dixie.

Ence and Wilstead connected for another touchdown in the third quarter, with Ence scoring on a 78-yard pass. However, Dixie responded with a 78-yard play, coming on a Trenton Miller run. Wilstead countered by connecting with Bladen Hosner for the first of his two touchdowns, this one a 63-yard pass. The Flyers responded with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Takau to Logan Schweitzer, giving Pine View a 35-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Wilstead threw another touchdown to Hosner, this time a 98-yard pass that gave the Panthers a 42-28 lead. The Flyers responded, as Barben scored on a 35-yard pass from Jaden Harrison. However, Dixie’s comeback attempt fell short, giving the Panthers the victory.

Pine View will travel to Desert Hills next week, while the Flyers will travel to Hurricane.
