SAN DIEGO (AP) — New data shows that the percentage of California seniors passing the high school exit exam required for graduation matched last year's record high results.
The state Department of Education said Tuesday that 95.5 percent of seniors in the Class of 2014 — more than 417,000 students — passed the exam, which tests basic skills in math and English.
That's the same percentage of seniors in the Class of 2013 who passed, and up from 90.4 percent in 2006, the first year seniors were required to pass the exam to graduate.
The state data exclude students with disabilities, who have been exempted from passing the exam as a requirement for graduation since 2009.
