SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah leaders have unveiled a statue of former Federal Reserve chairman and Utah banker Marriner Eccles outside the state Capitol.
Gov. Gary Herbert, lawmakers and business leaders were among about 200 people who gathered Tuesday to celebrate the new bronze tribute to Eccles.
The statue depicts Eccles holding his briefcase and hat with his jacket folded over his arm.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1pjX4Yg) plaques at the statue's base call Eccles an "entrepreneur and business leader" and "statesman and public servant."
Eccles, a Logan-born banker, was appointed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to serve as an assistant secretary in the Treasury Department and later as Fed chairman.
Eccles is credited with helping the country through the Great Depression.
