Tomorrow's grand opening of FrontRunner commuter rail service is an especially significant event in the history of the move toward more accessible and effective mass transit along the Wasatch Front.
Aesthetically, it's quite a train. Fast, comfortable and strikingly colorful! The run between Salt Lake City and Ogden, and soon, Pleasant View, is smooth and pleasing.
On the practical side, passing by freeway traffic at 79 miles per hour will certainly bring a degree of hope to frustrated Davis County commuters who often find themselves languishing in rush hour congestion.
FrontRunner, of course, is a key element in the region's integrated plan for keeping a rapidly expanding population mobile and functional, and not entirely dependent on automobiles. Beyond the work commute, it has the potential to change the way many residents get around. Hop aboard in Ogden, for example, and ride FrontRunner and TRAX to the University of Utah, or head south to the new soccer stadium in Sandy. Reverse the route and stop in Farmington for a day at Lagoon, or a visit to Ogden's railroad museum.
KSL heartily welcomes the advent of FrontRunner. And we look to the day when it ultimately extends from Brigham City in the north to Payson in the south.
