KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — NATO officials say three of its troops were killed and five were wounded in a suicide car bombing Tuesday near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. The coalition hasn't given the nationalities of those killed or wounded. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack that targeted a motorcade a couple hundred yards from the Embassy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is sending some muscle to West Africa to help fight the Ebola crisis. President Barack Obama is sending 3,000 military personnel to the afflicted region to provide medical and logistical support to health care workers. Administration officials already have said that the goal is to train 500 health care workers a week and build 17 health care facilities in the region.

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (AP) — A weakened Tropical Storm Odile (oh-DEEL') is pushing up Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, dumping heavy rains that could bring dangerous flash floods and mudslides. The Mexican government says army and commercial planes are being sent to La Paz and Los Cabos airports to ferry out some of the tens of thousands of tourists stranded in temporary shelters in hotels. Los Cabos international airport was damaged by the storm.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A man who's been attacking women with knives for decades will appear in a court in White Plains, N.Y., Tuesday to be sentenced for stabbing to death his girlfriend in 2012. Lucius Crawford could be given 25 years to life in prison for the stabbing in Mount Vernon. And he's facing trial on another murder charge in the Bronx. The same jury that convicted Crawford of killing his girlfriend could not reach a verdict on a third knife killing.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Another Atlantic City casino is going out of business. Trump Plaza will shut its doors at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The casino at the center of the Boardwalk and the end of the Atlantic City Expressway has been declining for years, performing worse than any of the city's other casinos. It follows the closures of the Atlantic Club, the Showboat and Revel. And Trump Plaza's parent company is threatening to close the Trump Taj Mahal in November.
