PHOENIX (AP) — The family of an Arizona shooting range instructor who was accidentally shot and killed by a 9-year-old girl with an Uzi say they're praying for her. The Arizona Republic reports that lawyers for the family of 39-year-old Charles Vacca delivered a video message last week to the girl's family. An attorney for the girl's parents says the family is devastated by the tragedy that occurred Aug. 25 on a brief excursion during a vacation. Vacca was shot at the Last Stop range in White Hills, Arizona, about 60 miles south of Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — One man is dead and another man was questioned and released without being charged after a fatal shooting in a parking lot across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Police say the man who was shot argued with a man in another vehicle just before 3 a.m. Monday in a strip mall parking lot near Paradise Road and Harmon Avenue.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Investigators say a wing malfunctioned before an experimental aircraft crashed last week in Nevada, killing a retired Air Force pilot from California as he tried to qualify for the Reno National Championship Air Races. Preliminary findings released by the NTSB say portions of the right wing separated from the Backovich GP-5 before it crashed in a remote part of the Stead Airport race course.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal agency is calling on museums and schools to change the way they do science demonstrations in light of a fire that injured 13 people, most of them children, earlier this month at a Reno museum. The U.S. Chemical Safety Board issued a statement Monday urging educators to end or limit their use of methanol or other flammable chemicals in demonstrations involving flames.
